Guidelines for Carved Memorial plaques

It is our intention that the burial ground
‘reverts to nature’ and in these circumstances, whilst we keep a
record of each grave position, graves will become difficult to
locate as the surrounding trees and shrubs mature. Relatives and
friends are therefore encouraged to place an engraved slate
plaque at the head of the grave to commemorate the deceased. The
cost is not included in the fee for Membership of the
Association.
An engraved memorial slate should be placed
AT THE WEST END of the grave (This is the end nearest
the lane). This can be placed either by yourself or, if using
the Co-op, by us as part of our service to you (see below).
We ask that engraved slates are:
-
12 inches by 12 inches by 1 inch thick and
are laid flat on the ground
-
Made from natural slate with a matt finish
i.e. not polished
-
Lettering should be in-filled white or not
painted
-
Limited to 60 characters excluding
punctuation
In the case of burial of ashes, the plaque must
be OVER THE URN as an aid to location in the
future as we do not map urn burial locations
Memorial trees may also have a plaque placed
adjacent to them. Again, the cost of this is not included in the
price of the memorial tree. We ask that memorial plaques,
engraved on a piece of slate (matt finish), maximum size of 12
inches by 12 inches by 1 inch thick, should be set on the ground
adjacent to the tree.
The
committee reserves the right to approve the wording used on
plaques.
